Hi, I’m Tom, founder of TBGK. I’m a young goalkeeper and coach based in Plymouth, Devon.

I’ve experienced the game from both sides of the goal. As a player, I progressed through youth football, starting at grassroots level in the DJML and later playing for Torquay United U18s, Saints Southwest, and Bovey Tracey. I’ve since stepped up into senior football, playing for teams including Tavistock AFC, Bodmin FC, Saltash Borough FC, and several other clubs across the South West.

This journey, from academy youth football to competing in men’s senior games, has given me a deep, first-hand understanding of what it takes to succeed as a modern goalkeeper.

My Coaching Journey

I started coaching in 2022 and quickly gained experience across the region. I’ve worked with:

•  Level Up Football Coaching (1-2-1 Goalkeeping Coach)

•  Independent Football Academy (IFA)

•  Goalkeeping Southwest

•  Keepers (Plymouth & Newton Abbot)

I am Enhanced DBS checked and hold a National Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development.

I’ve also benefited from over a decade of high-quality coaching myself, training with one of the South West’s most respected goalkeeping coaches (who has worked with Plymouth Argyle, Torquay United, and Yeovil Town), as well as sessions with a variety of coaches at Saints Southwest, Plymouth Argyle and Torquay United.

My Coaching Philosophy

Every goalkeeper is unique. That’s why I create personalised 1-2-1 sessions tailored to each player’s age, ability, and ambitions. Whether you’re just starting out or pushing for academy level, I focus on developing:

•  Shot-stopping & handling

•  Diving & agility

•  Distribution & playing out from the back

•  Dealing with crosses

•  1v1 situations

•  Command of the penalty area

Because I’m still playing senior football regularly, I bring fresh, real-match insights into every session. Training is challenging, fun, and designed to build both technical ability and strong mental confidence.

I coach children and young players aged 5 to 18.
